My name is Jeff Edwards and I was born in the state of Rhode Island in 1982, I am an artist photographer based in Glasgow, Scotland. You could say I entered art and photography a bit later than most as I didn’t start looking at photography or art seriously until I was in my mid-twenties. After developing my first roll of film and created my first prints I was hooked. I was also obsessed with the possible tactile approaches to the medium and quickly started exploring alternative practices. I moved to the U.K in 2008 to attend the Glasgow School of Art and graduated in 2011 with honours. I have since been steadily working on enhancing my personal practice and portfolio as well as working as a freelance gallery creator/technician. Mostly working with individuals and artists groups with pop up galleries in various locations throughout Glasgow. Recently I completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering to increase my skill set and it is something I believe will affect my approach to image making in the future. I have shown work throughout the United Kingdom, United States and beyond. I am primarily Influenced by the work of Ralph Steadman, Francis Bacon and the avant-garde. Allot of the time I find myself trying to work as a painter but with the medium of photography. I strive to create work with a graphic and painterly aesthetic. I work with archaic, traditional and alternative practices and explore techniques which are no longer in regular practice or are not associated with photography. I also work in a tactile, intuitive manner to push the boundaries of both analogue and digital practices. I am usually working on several projects at any given time that deal with a range of concepts but I avoid letting the concept be the core of the image, I see it as more of a back story that can be read into but isn’t a requirement to understand the image. The core of each image is the practice and work put into it. So you could say my personal practice is forever evolving, expanding, in a state of constant learning, development and flux.
