Physical layers
So images like this one consist of layers, lots and lots of layers. Not digital layers in photoshop though, layers of thin plastic sheets with hand altered images on each one. Then in this example placed over b&w photographic paper then weighed down with a glass sheet and exposed with a UVB bulb for several hours.

Going through the sift……
Currently sifting through tons of these, amazing how many little 4x5" prints you can pump out throughout several weeks when you are on a roll!

A little bit more
Once the paper has been exposed, I then make a high res scan, or if I think the scan will completely over expose the paper I take a photo of it. I then fix the image in an attempt to permatize the image however this generally destroys it 70% of the time.

Is there more colour in B&W?
Alright, so since June I began working with creating "Colour" Images. I say "colour" because this was created using Ilford Fiber B&W paper. My current practice is all about experimenting with colour analogue photography. This particular image is a combination of Cliche Verre and sun printing. A plate is created using a sheet of glass or perspex and is then added to and reduced using various techniques and materials such as etching, ink, carbon, scratching, paper, sand, dust and film. The plate is then exposed to the sun, UV B light or a high wattage bulb for anywhere between 30min to 8 hours.

Dark or Deep?
Not everything deep is dark .... Another Cliche verre print from a 4x5" Colour negative .... not to bad for Film that expired almost 20 years ago.

New life in old plates
Here we have another test, again using an old template/plate over a sheet of 4x5" colour film.

Stop! …… Colour Time!
Here we have the first test using colour film, started these at the beginning of the year with an expired box of Kodak Portra 160 4x5" film. Wasn't sure how it would work out so I used plates I had already made for the space and time series, so it may look a week bit familiar. They worked out well though so I will be starting brand new ones with fresh film soon!

Onward and outward to new things….
I think this will be it for the "time and and space" series for a while, there is allot more but need to edit them down and sort them all to have a proper look what will be the final images. Have been working and experimenting on A LOT of things over the past six months though, so stay tuned for some new and exciting colour work!

After a short break…..
Ok been awol for over a month now so no time like the present to get back into the swing of things! Been super busy and have loads of old and new work to get out there!
Need to work out the bugs….
OK lol so it's absolutely pouring in Glasgow. So I decided lets do a quick test of what happens to a 4x5" b&w negative. Had on for a few seconds then it burst into flames lol so that was fun. And this is the result. All that's left of the negative are the few pieces on the top right. Oh the joys of errors lol

Well now that the show is wrapping up and will come down this week I am going to share this video of it. Not the best since you know glass frames = glare and reflection and is super annoying but it does the job.
